Silly Family

Daniel is a Sooner fan through and through. I finally caved in and bought him a crimson OU t-shirt. It's silly that something so small could make him so happy. And of course, I got a deal on it. $6 at JCs. Love that.
Dads seem to have the pancake gift. Although I can make them, they aren't nearly as good as when Ben bakes up a batch. Plus, he makes all kinds of silly shapes - without help from molds even.
Our family loves the Sunday lunch or dinner pancake tradition. This particular Sunday, the shapes got pretty silly - a sunshine, princess crown, race car, and my favorite - hearts. Ben makes sure I always get a heart pancake. I heart you too, Ben.
Kind of a silly family that wants to make homemade caramels in June. Isn't that a Christmas tradition? Katie loves to make goodies with me, so one afternoon we made a batch of soft caramels. Everyone had fun wrapping them up to share with friends. That's the part of candy making that takes forever - the wrapping. Just before we left for Utah, we delivered caramel treats and birthday bags to several Oklahoma friends. Goodie deliveries make me so happy.
Katie's new friend, Shelby, came over in the middle of preparing the caramels and helped stir and mix too. They were a bit overanxious for them to be done and we didn't quite cook them long enough. Although perfect in flavor, they were a little on the soft side of "soft ball." We shared them anyway. I'm not a perfectionist and good is sometimes good enough.
We've enjoyed quite a few trips to our neighborhood pool. At one point, I glanced at silly Christina who I thought was enjoying a snack of pretzels, and instead, had them stuck all over her feet. Goofy girl. Oh, and then she wanted to eat them afterward. Ick.
The kids seems to enjoy our trampoline in the summer as much as the rest of the year. Water balloons are always a hit. Our Dollar Tree water blasters work great for filling the balloons. Even the kids can do them. I like that since water balloon making has typically been a Mom-intensive activity. I've learned if I make tiny water balloons and not fill them as full, they play with them longer. When I looked over at Katie and Shelby, they had stuffed Christina full of the balloons.
She looks like a Silly Pink Incredible Hulk. With skinny, long legs.
The silliness continues. In preparation for being out of town most of the summer, I tried to use up the perishables in our pantry. I found 1/2 a bag of green chocolates (leftover from Christmas) for dipping and decided we needed to make another goodie. Who dips pretzel sticks in June? The kids and Ben really enjoyed another silly snack!
I think Christina must be the biggest silly in the house these days. She found our breakfast-in-bed tray and decided she likes to eat her cold cereal on it each morning. Although we have both a dining and kitchen table, this one is just her size and easier for watching cartoons. I can be a softie too and feel like this is one battle not worth fighting. She's so happy in her little spot each morning. Now that the kids are home from school, she can't rule the roost as easily. A few minutes in her space make her happy.
And then there's me. I'm kind of silly myself. Whenever we go to Utah, we always end up doing some crafting and creating with my sister and sisters-in-law. As I gathered some things while packing, I got the itch to start some jewelry-making that night. Well, fifteen pairs of earrings later, I was still pumped to get crafty in Utah. Very fun and now I have some new earrings to wear while we travel.
