Talented Kids

May is such a busy time of year. In some ways, it feels busier than December. We've been enjoying all the end-of-the year concerts and events, even if it makes things extra nutty around our house. It's fun to celebrate each family member's talents and the activities they've participated in through the year. Honestly, though, I can't wait until school is out and we can par-tay!

Katie has enjoyed being part of a Children's Choir. We had to order her costume for this one last concert. I hope she continues next year with choir - not just for the costume's sake - but to improve her singing talent. It has been an amazing group to be involved with. The level of teaching and attention is phenomenal.
This concert had a great variety of songs. I loved how they added clever touches like the sunglasses, tossing beach ball's into the audience for a Beach Boys number, and kites for "Let's Go Fly a Kite." Christina sat intently on my lap, listening and swaying to the tunes. Daniel - on the other hand - played with my camera for much of the concert, videotaping his feet, his own face, and some great nose shots of me too. No, I won't be posting those.
Katie looked so pretty that night - kind of like Alice in Wonderland in her long, silky locks and headband. She wanted to wear her contacts that night so she could easily put on the cool shades and not be bothered with putting them over glasses. I think she knew she looked pretty too.
Daniel wanted a break from karate, so we decided to discontinue lessons until the fall and start up swim lessons. We had a little break before swimming and enjoyed a few weeks without structured after-school activities. Daniel has a social talent and loves playing with neighbor buddies. One day, he and Ben made this cool Star Wars model that Daniel received for a late birthday gift. Daniel was so proud. He also loved that individual time with Daddio.
He was so proud of it, carrying it around with him for every meal, on the way to school, and kept it by his bed all week. I loved hearing him tell people that it took him and his Dad over an hour to build. I think this one showcased both of their talents!
Christina has worked on developing her flower arranging talent. Hee, hee. Actually, I think her talent was in the flower picking. We have several empty lots in our neighborhood with wildflowers. One day on a walk, Christina gathered some dandelions and several other purple and yellow flowers. Christina was so proud to put them in this clear pitcher and place on the kitchen table.
I think she was proud of her Mom's bravery, too, as I picked off several bugs on the flowers. The only other downside to wildflowers is that they wilt awfully fast.
