Christina has a new boyfriend. His name is Otto. He's a robot and he lives at the Science Museum in OKC. She carries his picture in her pocket wherever she goes. She likes to blow kisses back and forth at Otto's photo at bedtime. And she asks me to do the same. She couldn't wait to go see him again on Wednesday.
Right when we arrived, though, we found out that they weren't running Science Live that day. That meant she wouldn't see Otto. She was disappointed, but happy to explore the museum and have a one-on-one date with Mommy.
In place of Science Live, this employee did a great job showing most of the same explosions and science experiments.
Christina was mostly excited to do face painting and play in the "Ding Dong House." I ended up making her leave the house earlier than she hoped because she wasn't playing very nicely. She is still working on sharing and playing cooperatively. We spent a few hours on Wednesday morning, taking advantage of our family membership.
Right next door to the museum is the zoo, so we re-parked and headed to the zoo now that it had warmed up. Just the night before I bought an annual pass to the zoo. This zoo lets two families share a membership, so we shared some with church friends, costing $35 for the year. When we arrived at the zoo, we shared our picnic lunch and started exploring. We found out from an employee that this zoo is ranked #3 in the nation. I can believe it! It's so large and packed with fun that we can never see the whole thing in a day.
It was a beautiful day to walk and see the animals, even if most of them were napping from 12-2.
I think the funniest thing about our day was hearing Christina obsess and worry about the rhino. She just knew his eyes looked sad and when I asked her why he was sad, she said, "The rhino is all alone and doesn't have any friends." I thought it was perceptive and observant.
The tender zoo moment was seeing this snake cuddling with the turtle. I had never seen that before.
We'd also never seen the waterfall iced over. The weather this week was warm, reaching most days in the high 70s. One day our minivan showed it was 83 degrees.
I loved having my new camera. The zoom is a little better and took some good photos of animals.
This Oklahoma area is fairly new and the best place to see lots of animals in a short walk.
Lots of deer, wolves, and bears in this area.
The trees looked wintery and bare, but I loved the unique dangling seed pods on this particular tree.
It was a fun date with Pinky!
